Geologists are now convinced large undersea earthquakes and the giant tsunami waves they cause have battered the Oregon coast again and again. Scientists are studying soil samples and turning to computer modeling to find out which communities are most at risk if it happens again.

Tree squirrels some of our most familiar wild animals, but also some of the least studied. The play an important role in the ecosystem, helping to distribute the seeds of plants and trees and providing a food source for predators. Non-native species such as gray squirrels and fox squirrels thrive in many urban areas, displacing native species like the western gray squirrel.
