New Hatchery
There are a number of people who believe that stocking our rivers and streams with hatchery fish is the answer to our depleted fish populations, but the latest research doesn't appear to back this up. Using genetic marking, scientists discover that hatchery fish are passing on their genetic weaknesses to wild steelhead salmon.

Smith & Bybee Lakes
Smith and Bybee lakes, located in north Portland, make up the largest urban wetland in the United States. Though a maze of industrialization surrounds these lakes those who make the journey will find a birders paradise. Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Bald Eagles and King Fishers are just a few of the many species on display. The rare Western Painted Turtle also live in and around these two lakes.
