9/16: Weekend Look-Ahead
Whether it be monologues, Biketobeerfest, stargazing or the seemingly ubiquitous Big Lebowski, this coming weekend offers a host of events ranging in culture and sport throughout the state. PDX Pipeline editor Nathalie Weinstein and Northwestern Outdoors Radio host John Kruse shared their top picks for the weekend with Think Out Loud. Hear the full conversation here or check out some highlights below. Weekend Highlights Biketobeerfest — Two of Portland's biggest obsessions come together for the world's only bike-themed Oktoberfest. You'll enjoy bikes, beer, bands and a lot of other things. This free event — which runs from noon to 10pm on Saturday — tops this week's list. September 17 Mike Daisey's All the Hours in the Day — Mike Daisey is unveiling his historically mammoth and ambitious 24-hour monologue at the TBA festival. It is likely such a monologue will be your first and only chance to witness a performance of this magnitude. If it sounds fun, and not overwhelming, we recommend it highly. September 17 Mortified: Portland — Both comedic and dramatic, and always cringe-worthy, an array of performers unearth embarrassing love letters, poems and notes from their younger years. Mortified will be entertaining, perhaps cathartic, and an overall great time to drink a beer and relive some teenage angst. September 16-17 Autumnal Equinox at Rooster Rock — Face it — Summer's over. Might as well celebrate the fall with some family friendly stargazing. if you don't have telescopes, binoculars or basic knowledge of the astral landscape, all will be provided, or at least should be. September 17 Marathon Dock Fishing Tournament and Pie Social (pdf) — Like to fish, but don't have a boat? What about pie — Do you like pie? Well then, you are in luck! There's a cash-prize dock fishing tournament and potluck pie social. Finally you don't need a boat to have a good time. September 16-18 Lebowski Bash — Grab your robe, White Russian and bowling ball because Lebowski Bash 2011 is going down. You can dress as the cowboy, a nihilist or even Donny to celebrate the not-so-cult classic on the lanes. September 17 What are you doing this weekend? Tell us below.
