Caching Out?
Call off the hounds!
The geocache that we secreted before our Geocaching show two weeks ago seems to have disappeared. (Maybe a muggle got it?)
We found out on July 12, when KoebCrew wrote on the forum that "6 kids and two adults" couldn't find it. And as the person who initially hid box can attest, eight searchers wouldn't be necessary to unearth the treasure. One would suffice!
In fact, this was predicited by "Cactus Monkey," who had found it two days earlier. He wrote:
Found this while in the park- I was walking in the footsteps of GeoReapers today as they signed the log before me. My wife's family told me about the OPB special on geocaching and to be honest, I kinda have mixed feelings about the whole thing. This used to be a game which was passed to folks via word of mouth... the high publicity may draw in huge number of newbies that litter the environment with new geocaches or people who track down well hidden caches, believe them to be an ecological hazard, and remove them (without knowing about the the website, they may have never known the geocache was even there) .... but then again, all the folks on this site, including me, started with zero caches (have to start somewhere)...
He even sent me some advice via email:
Typically you try to make the container fit the location and the cache was a little too large for the area... it was bound to go missing sometime. A micro cache would have been better off in that location.
I'll keep that in mind for next time!
