Ceiling Cracks
If you heard the very start of today's show on foster care, you might have gotten a very odd image in your mind!
Today on Think Out Loud, sealing the cracks children fall through in the foster care system.
Did you see youngsters falling through cracks in the ceiling plaster? I didn't even catch how odd it sounded until it was kindly pointed out to me afterward. Of course, if all the foster care system needed was some drywall and mud, we probably wouldn't have been talking about it!
It was particularly ironic to make that mistake today. I spent two days this week in a writing session where the trainer flagged up homophones as something to actively avoid.
Luckily, he also said all rules could be broken if the writing worked to tell the story. Here is a line from a story I did in 2005 from the Czech Republic that still makes me laugh:
. . .Czechs of all stripes were amused when France rejected the constitution.
That was on purpose! Hear it here!
