With Facebook and Twitter and a daily show to feed, sometimes something has to give. Lately, perhaps, it's been reading your comments on the air. Now we know it is time for that to change! Time to get back to our roots of active web dialogue before, and after the show, and regular integration of those topics on the air.
But we need your help...
When we read comments on the air we try to distill them into their main point, and this is a lot easier when you do some of the distillation for us. When possible keep your comments brief, to the point, and filled with experience. Here are some of the guidelines:
- Write with civility and respect. Attack arguments, not commenters.
- Trolling — commenting for any purpose other than sincere expression, assuming an identity to disrupt a thread, or deliberately baiting another commenter — will not be tolerated.
- Link to your sources and excerpt selectively. (Don't copy and paste an entire Oregonian article, for example.)
- Stay within the 2500 character limit. If you have to scroll to read a comment, it's probably too long. And if you find that you're often writing at length about topics of your own choosing, consider starting your own blog. It only takes ten minutes. Email us and we'll help.
And when it comes to that word count, we're now truncating long comments with Disqus. If you write a comment longer than 200 words, you'll see a blue "show more" link where your comment was truncated. Click on that link to see your full comment. We changed this to make navigating our blog comments a little bit easier.
