Remember, lo those many years ago, at the dawn of TOL, when I humbly suggested that it would be great if commenters on this site signed in with their real names? The idea was to foster a sense of community and transparency. But it wasn't completely altruistic on my part. As Bethbrod wrote:

Well, needless to say, that ship has sailed. For each Tom D. Ford or Penny from Eugene, we've had at least as many hard- or impossible-to-pronounce commenters. So our plea has changed: real name or not, it would be great if you could give some thought as to how your name will sound on air. And if you really want to call yourself X83hEE34x, we're not going to stop you. But we probably won't read your name on the air.
One more idea: for everybody who has already chosen an identity for our site, you can always include a name at the bottom of your comments.

Thanks for the shout-out, Dave, as one of the participants who has an "announcer-friendly" user name! My choice was fairly simple, though, as it is derived from my own name.
