Kids These Days!
I had an interesting visit to Forest Park Elementary School last Wednesday in preparation for Friday's Local Lunch show. For one thing, I realized there's a soft spot in my heart for hard plastic trays with their little wells for each of the glopped lunch components. (Not to worry, PPS: I didn't see any glopping going on at Forest Park.) It turns out I may be alone at Think Out Loud for feeling this way; I loved school lunch growing up.
But the highlight was a conversation I had with fourth grader Michael Ioffe. He was so eager to talk about the benefits of local food (it's healthy, fresh and tasty!) that I thought I was talking to a seasoned food policy advocate — a mini-Michael Pollan. So I asked him if he ever just goes for a guilty eating pleasure, regardless of where that pleasure comes from. His answer was priceless.
Here's an MP3 of our exchange.
