When we talked a couple of months ago about why people spend less time outside than they used to, Frith from Vancouver called to say he actually spends lots more time outside than he ever has. Much of that time is riding a scooter or bike tied to his dog, Velocity, an adorable Husky/Golden Retriever/German Shepard mix.
What he does is called urban mushing, something Dave and I had never heard of but were certainly eager to try! Frith was game and promised that Velocity didn't mind beginners. So one recent sunny afternoon we raced through Vancouver's alleyways with me on the Velocity-pulled scooter, Frith biking alongside to direct his dog and Dave biking nearby with a mic in one hand and headphones on instead of a helmet. Dave tried the scooter later. We all survived!
Here's a listen -- starting with Frith getting Velocity into cute little red booties and ending with her cooling off in a plastic pool in his backyard. Velocity seems to love it, and Frith certainly does, but he admits it may be a while before urban mushing becomes our main form of transportation.

Several people ride dog pulled skateboards past my house regularly and one guy even has his baby in a backpack. The dogs seem to like it.
