Out of Time

Whoops! I lost track of the clock today and ran right up against the end of our airtime. I often come close, but rarely this close.

If you heard a sharp intake of breath, here's what happened behind the scenes: First, a subtle hand wave from Dave and a "30 seconds!!!!!!" message from producer Julie Sabatier on my computer screen. Then my gasp, and our confused guest and I spun our heads toward the blue digital clock on the wall. I quit trying to count backwards in my head and realized I had to stop.

Anyway, we did follow up on what was interrupted. The question was big picture: why do you believe it's important that people can access government-held information?

Steve Woodward of Nozzl Media said it's what people use to reassure themselves their bank is stable or doctor is ok. And he emphasized that industry insiders (like bankers or doctors) often already know how to access the relevant public records. Brent Walth, with The Oregonian, says people need to know why and how the government is doing what it's doing because it involves real impacts on justice and suffering.

See, that only took a few seconds!
