You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!
Time was running short in our final segment today about cold-weather drinks, which meant we didn't get to sample a freshly made cocktail on the air. In fact, Karen Foley from Imbibe magazine was still shaking the drink as I signed off. It was called "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out," courtesy of Mathias Simonis, a bartender at Distil, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. And it was delicious. Here's the recipe:
- 2 oz. aged rum
- 1/2 oz. Becherovka
- 1/2 oz. Benedictine
- 1/4 oz. cinnamon syrup
- 3 dashes Angostura orange bitters
Combine all ingredients with ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass or over one large ice cube in a rocks glass. Garnish with an orange twist
As I mentioned, it was delicious. But I don't recommend my particular breakfast medley this morning: a few leftover roasted Brussels sprouts and a cup of tea before the show (don't ask me what I was thinking), and then some potent beer and a serious cocktail after. I should have gone with a hearty base of Casey Negreiff's morning waffles...
