The Museum of Contemporary Craft is celebrating its 75th anniversary by featuring a retrospective of the work of the late Eastern Oregon ceramic artist Betty Feves. She worked with the natural landscape in Pendleton, often digging her own clay. She created all of her own glazes using leaves and other natural materials. In her 40-year career, she worked in New York, engaged in national art gatherings and created distinctively striking sculptures. This week, the museum's curator is visiting the house where Betty Feves's son still lives to retrieve pieces for the retrospective, which opens March 15.
Have you seen Betty Feves's work? What's your reaction to it? Have you visited the Museum of Contemporary Craft? What speaks to you there?
