Brad Avakian Talks About State Law After Bakery Incident
The state Attorney General's office is currently looking into a complaint filed by a same-sex couple who says the Gresham bakery Sweet Cakes by Melissa refused to make a cake for their wedding. The women were upset, not only by the bakery's refusal to serve them, but also about comments that were reportedly made about their status as an engaged couple. Both the couple and the bakery have subsequently received support, with a business boom at the bakery as well as calls and emails of support for the couple. A celebrity chef even offered to make them a cake for free. We'll ask the State Labor Commissioner what Oregon law says about when and whether a business can refuse service to potential customers.
What questions do you have about the rights of customers and business owners in cases where values collide?
