There are two casino-related measures on the ballot this fall. Measure 82 would amend the constitution to allow non-tribal casinos and requires those casinos to give a percentage of their revenue to the state lottery. Measure 83 would authorize such a casino in Multnomah County's Wood Village.
The campaign in support of the measures focused on the jobs the new venture would create. Several construction unions endorsed them. But backers of both measures announced three weeks before election day that they were suspending their campaign, acknowledging that the odds of passing the measures were slim.
Numerous newspapers wrote editorials endorsing a "no" vote on the measures and four former Oregon governors joined the campaign against Measures 82 and 83. The main thrust of that campaign warns against a possible gambling boom in the state.
Do you know how you'll vote on Measures 82 and 83? What questions do you have about these ballot measures?
