International aid agencies have been warning of a crisis in the Horn of Africa for months. Now it appears those are coming true. The U.S. estimates that 29,000 children under the age of five have died in the last 90 days. The situation has been labeled the worst humanitarian crisis and the famine is spreading. The country hasn't had a stable government for decades. Corruption and political instability are among the complex mix of factors standing in the way of aid from the U.S. and other countries intended for Somalis.
Are you a member of a Somali community in Oregon? How are you keeping up with the events in Somalia? What are you doing in response? What do you think the U.S. or international community should do in response?
