Workers and volunteers with international relief agencies and non-governmental organizations are hard at work in the Horn of Africa trying to prevent the death of millions at risk of starvation. Last month we checked in with staff at Medical Teams International and members of the Somali community to get reactions and see what was being done to help the region. Today we'll get an update from a member of the Mercy Corps team who's just back from Kenya and Ethiopia.

Do you have a connection to any of the countries in the Horn of Africa? How closely have you been following the news of famine and drought? What are your reactions? What else should the international community be doing?

GUEST:

  • Michael Bowers: Senior Director for Strategic Response and Global Emergencies at Mercy Corps.
