On this Labor Day, we'll listen back to two conversations we had earlier this summer reacting to Anne-Marie Slaughter's Atlantic Magazine cover story, "Why Women Still Can't Have It All."
The article suggests that's it's virtually impossible for women to actively parent their children and climb to the highest rungs of various career ladders. In the first conversation, we talked with a partner in a law firm, the executive director of an advocacy organization and a magazine editor. In the second, we focused on issues faced by middle and working class women. These mothers may not have access to sick time or other paid time off, and for them "having it all" may have a different meaning.
Are you a parent? How do you balance your work and family responsibilities? How did your work life change after you had kids? If you don't have children but you'd like to, how do you think that will affect your career?
