Record Enrollment for International Students
International student enrollment at Oregon's seven universities is up by 45% this year, and the number of international students enrolled this year is the highest it's ever been. At the University of Oregon, a record 1,500 international students are enrolled for the 2011-2012 school year. Oregon State University has about 2,000 international students enrolled.
What does this mean for students from Oregon who pay in-state tuition? Some public universities in the Northwest have been critized for favoring non-resident students because they pay higher tuition. And one high school guidance counselor from Hillsboro says her students are finding it more difficult to gain admission to Oregon's public universities.
Did you leave your home state to go to college? If so, why? Do you think public universities should enroll more non-residents because they pay higher tuition?
