Mohamed Mohamud was arrested in November, 2010 after allegedly trying to set off what he thought was a bomb at Portland's holiday tree-lighting ceremony in Pioneer Courthouse Square. The bomb was actually a fake, provided to Mohamud by undercover FBI agents.

After pre-trial hearings on everything from language to undercover witnesses, the trial is getting under way this week. Defense attorneys for the Somali-born Mohamud are expected to make the case that the young man was entrapped by federal agents.

OPB reporter April Baer will be covering this trial from the courthouse throughout the proceedings.
