The Move Your Money Project is a nationwide campaign encouraging people to take their money from large banks, and put it in local banks and credit unions instead. November 5th is the day the movement has been pushing toward. While not officially aligned with the Occupy Wall Street movement — Move Your Money is building from its energy. But there are still many people who are happy with their large banks. Retail banking experts say that economies of scale make big banks less risky, and better options for consumers.
Move Your Money Portland says:
If you still bank with one of the big banks, you have a decision to make. It is the same as the decision to shop at your co-op instead of Walmart. It’s the same as the decision to buy organic vegetables instead of pesticide vegetables. It is the same as riding a bike when you could drive. You are where you bank.
Are you "where you bank"?
Are you participating in Move Your Money? Why or why not? How did you choose your bank? What's important to you when picking a financial institution?
