At 9 a.m. today the Oregon Department of Education announced that graduation rates held steady in 2010 from the previous year. Only 66 percent of Oregonians graduate in four years with high school diplomas. Within some minority populations, that number plummets to as low as 50 percent.
While these numbers are "passing" under this year's criteria, if no improvements are made, some Oregon schools could be designated "failing" or not making adequate yearly progress, under next year's federal No Child Left Behind mandate.
We'll examine the numbers and the changes.
Are you a teacher or administrator? A parent or a student? What do you look for in graduation rate statistics? Are you struggling to graduate from high school? What will get you to the finish line?
