A Preview of the Portland Mayor's Race
On May 15th, 2012, Portland residents will vote for their next mayor. If no one receives a majority of the votes, the two contenders with the largest share will square off next November. Portland's current mayor, Sam Adams, has announced he's not running. That leaves an open field, into which New Season's co-founder Eileen Brady, former Portland City Commissioner Charlie Hales, and Oregon Bus Project founder Jefferson Smith, have stepped. The X-factor in the campaign is current Police Chief Mike Reese. He has opened a mayoral fundraising account, but withdrew from a mayoral candidate forum on Tuesday.
While the three declared candidates have seriously begun their fundraising and endorsement seeking campaigns, there are plenty of unions and businesses that haven't yet aligned with a candidate. Where will the campaign go? And what will the important issues be for the 2012 election? We'll hear what to expect from Portland's political experts and analysts.
