The literary legacy of Sherman Alexie so far includes movies, books of fiction and poetry, and essays on reading, reservations, and US politics. He made the hour fly by when we interviewed him earlier this fall.
I think my favorite of his books remains The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, and I liked Flight a lot as well. I found his new collection of stories, War Dances (you can read the title tale here), a bit uneven, but he's a crackerjack storyteller: funny and reflective and responsive.
One of our site's regular commentators called Alexie "mouth music." Have you seen or read any of his work?

Hey! I can't find it - don't know if it's recorded, but you're in a Mood Area 52 song! They're a great local sort of neo-tango band out of Eugene, where one of the best lines is "dumb is not hot, & reading is sexy"...I think your last name might rhyme with that line...
The lead singer uses this song as the introduction to his syllabus as an 8th grade English teacher:)

I came into your discussion late, but was struck by your guest. I've not yet read him, but have a book on hold and am hitting the library to see if I can get any of his works today. I'm thoroughly interested. thank you for introducing me to someone I didn't know!
Happy New Year

Same for me! Now I know who put the holds on before me:)
Happy New Year and thank you!

A brilliant man and a voice that is uniquely recognisable, just like JFK, Humphrey Bogart, Claude Rains, Lyndon Johnson, Susan Stamberg, etc.
If I were the commercial advertisers, I'd ask him to do voice overs, and I sure can see him doing the voice for an animated movie part.
I've tried to describe his voice before and not got to a description I'm satisfied with. There is some enthusiastic aliveness, like maybe glass wind chimes in a windy wild mountain thunderstorm, a range of low notes all the way up through tinkling delight, I just don't have the words for it yet. But that voice sticks out from thousands of others in some way that gets my attention.
Hmm, maybe like an oboe and clarinet, with some piccolo or windchimes.

I agree with the author in the discussion about Kindle and other electronic readers. As an avid reader I love to interact with the book.
I live in Crook County and work in Jefferson County. The actions of the school district concerning your book, for me represents the resistance in Central Oregon to acknowlege the presence and importance of the Native American community. We are Living on the land of what was Warm Spring. It is like interacting in two different worlds to live here in Prineville, and to work in Madras, where 60% of the population I serve is brown (Native and Hispanic).
