Recess Conversations: Highlights
Think Out Loud talked with members of Oregon's congressional delegation over the August recess. Oregon's Democratic representatives Earl Blumenauer, Peter DeFazio and Kurt Schrader and Washington Republican representative Jaime Herrera Beutler joined us for about a half hour each. We also talked with Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley.
They talked about the federal budget, the debt ceiling crisis and hopes for the so-called "super committee." They also talked about tax pledges and tax loopholes, about social security, the Patriot Act, the war in Afghanistan, the passing of Senator Mark Hatfield and a host of other topics. In this special compilation show, we'll hear excerpts from the series. And you can listen to any of the conversations in their entirety online. You can also check out photos taken with our guests here.
For those keeping score at home, we did not talk to Representative David Wu, who resigned just before the August recess. We'll be talking to Congressman Greg Walden on September 12.
What do you think of the job Congress has done so far this year? What about the job your Senator or Congressional representative has done? What do you hope to see prioritized when Congress reconvenes after Labor Day?
