So far, two of the three candidates for Portland mayor have told us they have concerns about the high profile Oregon Sustainability Center planned for downtown Portland. (For the record, the two are Jefferson Smith and Charlie Hales. Eileen Brady will have her chance to weigh in next Wednesday.) The idea is to create jobs and to reflect the state's reputation as a leader in green practices. On its website the center quotes Andrea Durbin of the Oregon Environmental Council, who says:
Oregon should be the first state in the nation to build a regenerative living building, and demonstrate to the rest of the country Oreogn's sustainability know-how and expertise for buidling and living green.
Plenty of critics, including members of the Oregon legislature, have raised questions about the feasibility of $40 million in state funding and the timing of the project, among other issues.
What experience do you have with living buildings? What questions do you have about the future of the Oregon Sustainability Center?
