Angel Oregon will announce new investments in Oregon start-ups Wednesday. While venture capital is often associated with tech companies, this year's finalists make a wide range of consumer products, from foods like veggie burgers and peanut butter to energy-saving thermal window inserts.
For the first time in eight years, an Oregon company did an initial public offering (IPO) last week, but the event didn't make much of a splash. Maybe that's because the company makes helicopters rather than some new, exciting app. There could be more "buzz-worthy" local IPOs coming up, though.
In other business news, there's still a significant gap between men's full time salaries and women's full time salaries in Oregon (and across the nation). On average, women make 77 percent of what men bring home in a 40 hour work week. It's worth noting that executive pay in Oregon is on the rise, and only one in ten of the state's top paid CEOs is a woman.
