One the biggest draws at PICA's TBA festival this weekend will be the 25th performance of Ten Tiny Dances. The piece is based on a simple idea: limitation. Since 2002, Portland choreographer Mike Barber has been pushing artists to fit their creative expression to a 4x4 platform. Each performance is made up of 10 dancers given the task of creating a five to eight minute performance on a tiny stage.
What has since emerged is a diverse array of complex, electric and unique pieces which have grown to draw upwards of 500 people to its late night performances. Last year's performance was captured beautifully by Oregon Art Beat.
Have you been to a Ten Tiny Dance performance? How does limitation inform art? What inspires you about the TBA Festival?
