The Changeover: Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton goes back to the Senate tomorrow, but not as a senator. She faces a confirmation hearing for her nomination as Secretary of State. The conventional wisdom is that she'll receive a warm welcome from Republicans and fellow and Democrats alike, but that she can expect a few tough-ish questions. For example, it's likely she'll be asked about potential conflicts of interest between her new post and her husband's ongoing charitable and business activities with the Clinton Global Initiative.
There's also the question of what role -- if any -- Bill will have in her travels and negotiations. Not to mention wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Gaza, unrest in Pakistan, and a nuclearly amibitious Iran -- some of which proved to be sources of friction between candidates Obama and Clinton in the course of the election. Is this "team of rivals" ready to speak with one voice?
On the off-chance that the members of the Senate Foreign Relations committee run out of questions, they can always turn to a handy cheat-sheet from the folks at Foreign Policy magazine, who were good enough to provide 47 questions for Clinton.
What about you? What would you ask this former first lady, and senator, and presidential candidate in anticipation of this new chapter in an already extraordinary life? Are you focused on China? Or Gaza? Zimbabwe or Pakistan? Who should a Secretary Clinton sit down with first?

Dear Hillary Clinton:
You could've been a contender! All you needed was a Political Platform, a moral code of conduct, a personal code of ethics, and a promise for the people. You know? Words, just inspirational words.
My question is about "Operation Enduring Freedom" Everybody knows that our mission ended at the exact moment the administration agreed that the local extremist death-cult religon would superceed freedom and democracy. Our war completely failed to free even a single slave. Furthermore, we installed one madman's obtuse interpretation of Democracy that none of the parties can live by. My question is; how do you feel about slavery, and, as a figurehead for the American People, what would you do about it? Do you think it's time we stopped spending money on poorly planned wars? -
I only heard a brief comment on this show last night. But it was from Emily Harris talking about the dangers of nuclear proliferation. As examples, she mentioned Gaza and Iran. Whoa; the Palestinians don't even have an army, let alone the industrial capabilities to create nuclear weapons. And Iran, unlike Israel, is a signatory of the NPT and unlike Israel, has co-operated with the nuclear watchdogs. A very poor showing by an OPB staff person.

I have to say that I was very impressed with the "Think Out Loud" show on Hillary Clinton's hearing. It was exactly why public radio should exist. I did not agree with everything said, but all of it made me think. I will be doubling my contribution to OPB the next time around.

i would also like to hear more discussion about the Law of the Seas Treaty.
The question was asked if i voted for Ms Clinton. i gave her verbal support during the the primary race, not agree with her values or politics, but because i felt that the guy i was supporting would have been able to beat her! However, i do feel that the Pres-Elect has made a good choice for Secretary of State, and Ms Clinton will make a good representitive of my country to the Community of Nations.
