Third Parties: Constitution Party
The Constitution Party of Oregon's website lists seven principles. The first is "Life." Chair Jack Brown says the sanctity of human life — as it relates to the abortion and euthanasia — is central to Oregonian party members. Not surprisingly, constitutional issues are very big as well. Brown says one of the biggest concerns is the federal government printing and using unbacked paper currency. Another relates to the government regulating large swaths of land, like the public land now managed by agencies like the U.S. Forest Service and The Bureau of Land Management.
The party has nominated Will Christensen, who was nominated by the Independent American Party (no relation to Oregon's Independent Party) to be its Presidential candidate. We'll talk with the chair of the Constitution Party, Jack Brown, and the party's presidential nominee, Will Christensen, as our series on Oregon's third parties continues.
Would you consider registering as a member of the Constitution Party of of Oregon or voting for a candidate on the Constitution Party ticket? Which of their issues resonate with you? Which don't? What is the appropriate role for minor parties in our system of government?
