Third Parties: Working Families Party
The Working Families Party of Oregon calls itself, "the minor party with major possibilities." The party came onto the Oregon scene in 2006. Since that time, party faithfuls say they've managed to achieve some significant political success by the system of fusion voting. That's a system of "cross-nomination," whereby the party can endorse candidates from either of the two major parties, or any other party for that matter.
The WFP says that's how they recently unseated an incumbent in the May primary and helped the opposing candidate win the nomination. The issues central to the party include:
- A single payer system for health care
- Affordable housing and lending practices reform
- Promoting green, family-wage jobs
