TOL producers were quite unfair in their pairing of Dr. Militopov with Marcy Darnovsky. While he was interested in the technical details of solving a specific biomedical problem, he was ill-prepared to deal with the kitchen-sink FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) attack from Ms. Darnovsky.
We got "designer babies", "genetic engineering" and even a mention of the Nazis! Way to play fair, Ms. Darnovsky! Your place in the Argumentation in Bad Faith Hall of Fame is well deserved.

on Nuclear Northwest
What Mr. Landry is trying to get at (and the host does not seem to understand) is that nuclear power is one of the few power sources that can supply lots and lots of power.
It's a simple math power. Trojan was not an especially large plant -- it put out 1130 MW of energy. The Mojave Solar Park will be the largest solar plant in the world -- it will put out only 553 MW.
It's been over 15 years since I've heard Mr. Kafoury talk -- it's good to know he's just as annoying and mendacious as ever.

on Limiting Fertility?
I admire the caller who decided that adoption was the best option.
From an evolutionary perspective, it makes sense that you'd be most altruistic to children that carried your own genes. While such selfishness is not very pleasant, reproduction is the most self-centered act (in a literal sense, not a judgment) of all.

I'd love to see Portland develop an equally rich biotech/pharma culture so I could move back home. But I haven't seen it yet -- there's only 3 companies in the entire Portland/Vancouver area I'm aware of that are in my area of expertise. So I'll watch and wait.
