Emily Harris's comments:

on The Oregon State Hospital Today

Hi David - Friday's show is an hour with Greg Roberts, the still relatively new hospital superintendent. There won't be other scheduled or invited guests on this program. We're of course seeking questions from anyone interested in mental health, public spending, or other related issues. We always value input from people with direct experience with the subject at hand!

Thanks, Emily

on The Oregon State Hospital Today

Hi Cocoburra,

Do you mean trauma related injuries as they might relate to mental illness? Or how the OSH handles trauma injuries if/when they happen to people staying there?

Thanks,

Emily

Oh what a silly typo! Thanks for noticing. Corrected now. I sometimes crossed paths with Harry down in the basement at Santa Monica College! I was there in the later mid-90s.

on Waldport Reacts to Shooting

Here are a few things I’m interested in learning:

How has this event changed people in Walport and around here? How will it affect their behavior and what they teach their children? What theories do they have about where Durham went? Sometimes local observers think through things in a different way than police. How do police decide how many public resources to put into a situation like this? What do they weigh? Where did Durham go? If he did shoot the police officer as suspected, why? What could change to prevent another situation like this?

What else? Add your questions in!

Cam - What a funny coincidence! What's it been like being Cam Newton this year for you?

And what do you really mean to say about armchair atheletes? :-)

responding to Gereng below - they were spam. Gone now. If people can refrain from commenting in response to spam, it's easier to get rid of. Thanks, Emily

This may be what you're looking for - a comment from the blog during the original airing of the show. There are responses to that specifically further down in the thread.

Davcam - are you talking about fanboydom?

A person who has an undying urge to sway everyone that is not a believer of the belief system they have towards a game or system or every piece of hardware. If they do not succeed, they will not sway from their statement infront of anyone who knows their stance.

Just one of many definitions. Usually fanboys are associated with technology/geek stuff, not sports, but perhaps it applies. Anyway, yes, we are going to talk to a rabid Duck and Beaver today - then get beyond sports cheerleading to why some people go nuts over other things - TV, gardening, the (real) Civil War - whatever. Are you a fan of anything in particular?

Tom, why specifically are you a fan of his?

And what do you do to show it?

on A Mighty Wind in Union County

The Grande Ronde Valley is a remarkably beautiful valley surrounded by mountains.  The most iconic is Mt. Emily to the west.  Directly opposite to the east is Mt. Harris.  To the south east is the tallest; Mt Fanny.  If Emily Harris says her middle name is Fanny we will have to build a monument to her right in the middle of the valley.

That's funny! For the record, my middle name is not Fanny!

on Election Night Special 2010

I agree, it's frustrating! But some people really like the moment by moment developments. We read off the Secretary of State's website because that's where the results come in. It's true, you can look at those numbers too! But we'll do it for you if you'd like!

As far as what we KNOW and don't know - turnout was not known at 8 PM. Partial turnout was. Like partial everything, it provides some, but limited information. As far as what else is or isn't known election night, I would suggest very little accurate analysis about what made this election different from other midterms (if it is) can be done until results are in. I like your suggestion about hearing more on election from "people on the street" for an anecdotal sense of what drove voters.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks, memo, for posting. Russ Dondero did make his views on war clear, and I made a point to identify them as his. I completely agree with you that transparency like that is the best way to get where people are coming from in their commentary as a whole.

on Candidate Conversation: 5th District

Thanks Russ - Today was a bit of a challenge! I thought they both did a pretty even amount of listening, interrupting, and calling each other out.  Sometimes I find it informative to just hear the candidates interact. You're right the devil is in the specifics, some came out today.

on Equal Protection for Sexual Minorities?

If you'd like to listen back, here is the audio (mp3) of how Seth described the conversation to us. We played it during the show. This was from an interview last week with our producer Allison Frost.

on Equal Protection for Sexual Minorities?

Our guest you're referring to was Marilyn Shannon, a former state legislator and a leader in trying to overturn Oregon's domestic partnership law.

The Beaverton School District declined to come on the program. Our producer talked with their spokesperson Maureen Wheeler last week and invited her on. She said no one would be available for the program as they had given their side and we had all the information.

Cheers, Emily
