on Not At School

Mrs. Jackman doesn't get it.   A BIG part of high school is being shown the diffrence between fact and fiction and leteing the students see the diffrence.

Her desire to insulate the students of this high school from such content because it matches her very conservative ideals is bad for the students education.   You can not teach about what you refuse to let people know about.

If you want to teach people how to act, sometimes you have to acutally show them how not to act

on Music for the Soul

My Song is Iris by the GooGoo Dolls. No song encapsulates the heartbreaks and lonelyness that has infected my life. It's a song of desperation, The lyrics are so lonely that they aren't even looking for anything beyond just having people know the singer exiist. When my life is at it's darkest, this is the same way I feel and it helps me remember I am not alone.

on Measure 58: English as a Second Language

Legislating how teachers teach is always going to be a failer. Everyone learns diffrently. Helping people learn english should be a process decided in a converstaion between the students the parents and the teachers.

Bill Sizemore shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere near the Political process. He doesn't believe that people can make their own choices. Vote no on anything with his name on it.

on McCain and the Veteran Vote

When I talk about flip floping in this case it's backed up by McCains voting record. For instance, claims to support veterans, yet refused for a long time to sign on to the new GI bill(i'm not sure if he's signed on yet). HAS BEEN torutured, and claims publicly to be opposed to the US using it. Yet voted aginst a bill to ban torture.
Too me flipfloping is when you say something and vote the other way. If you say something, Then admit you changed your mind, it's not flip flopping it's changing your mind. People do that sometimes and I don't have a problem with it. No one is right all the time. but when you tell me one thing and do something else it makes you not only a flip-flopper, but also a liar.

on McCain and the Veteran Vote

I believe the person your talking to right now is John Neuman. I wish you'd acutally make sure you guests get their facts right before letting them on the air. His slander of Obama was terrible. He trotted out a lot of talking points used by right wing raido that have been disproven. If he wants to talk about flip flopping in politics he needs to look no farther then John McCain.

on Clinton and the Generational Gender Divide

Please in the name of credibilty, if you are going to quote a writer pick someone that acutally has some sort of journalistic credentials. Maureen Dowd is NOT a good journalist. She makes up stories, she lies, and she makes it very clear is very partisan(hint:she's not a democrat).

on Graffiti, Gangs and Growth

Gangs are another product of our Economy. As people have been pushed out of upper end job, to lower end (fast food type) jobs. Teens have been pushed out of these jobs and into doing..nothing. Another contributing factor is having both parents work. If you have Mom(or Dad) at home to keep track of teen agers it's a lot harder for them to gather up and commit mischief. Gangs are another product of the free trade movement. Fix our economy and Gangs (and much crime) will thin out.

on The GOP Parties On

The problem the republicans have is they(headed by Bush and co) have stopped being conservatives and are mostly just wedge issue touting Hawks. It's not about using any form of tradiational Republican values. It's about pushing the "war on terror" and the leaders of the Republican party nationally push the terror on America. I'm a far left liberal. I don't agree with conservatives, but I can respect them, and have a good debate with them. I don't have much respect for Repulicans. Neo-cons are almost regligious in their furvor. YOu can't debate them, if you question anything they say, they call you anti-american. Please bring the traditional (Esinhour type) conservatives back. I need a good debate!

on Lost in Translation

The curious thing about immigration and people from mexico in the US is that no one is looking at WHY they are here. Global free trade is crushing the mexican economy as much as the it is in the US. From all the numbers I've seen after NAFTA was put into effect the number of Latinos(particulalry from mexico) that have immiagrated(legal or not) to the US has gone up radically. I keep hearing the current batch of Republicans(I'm not one) talk about Fences and punishment for immigrants. Neither will help. The problem is all economic based. Employers would not give these people jobs if they were acutally penelized for hiring them, as they are suppose to be under the law. and the people in Mexico would not feel they have to come to the US just to survive if the US would stop supporting unfair Trade deals and corrupt goverments in Mexico

There needs to be a path to citizenship for all these people, our policies forced them to come here. I don't think any one of the undocumented immiagrants came to the US for a joyride.
