Gene Dieken's comments:

on Immigration Law

This morning OPB chose to repeatedly feature the results of questions 15 & 16 of this survey: 61% of Oregonians support the Arizona immigration law. The problem with all polling like this is that the questions are asked outside of a real-world context.

The real-world question would be something like: "Oregon currently faces a half billon dollar budget shortfall. Given your support for implementing an Arizona-like law here, what tax increases or additional program budget cuts would you favor in order to pay for enforcing and administering such a law?"

Blareing out contextless poll results as news is journalistically fraught and can easily be taken as editorial advocacy. I expect better from OPB.

on The Economics of the Death Penalty

Just an observation for the hosts: Al Gore couldn't get two sentences of an answer out before being interupted by the hosts. The guests on the death penaly show were allowed to bloviate ad nausem.

on Coming Back From War

Show 2: What's the premise or goal of this show. What do you want to illuminate and what's the Oregon tie-in?

This show will be more satisfying if you set the stage and place each story in a larger context.
