on Homeless in the Suburbs

On this topic, Lunacy Stageworks, in association with Street Roots (as part of the Fertile Ground Festival) is producing Stories From the Streets. Stories, poems, and readings created and performed by people who are or have experienced homelessness. This is the second year that we've done an event like this. One of the thrusts this year is to illustrate the nuance of this part of the human experience, that the idea of "homeless" can hold a lot of very different experiances. http://www.lunacystageworks.org/attractions.html

on Bottling It Up in Cascade Locks

I think it is good to remember too that there are people who say that in the coming decades or centuries that water is going to be valued in a similarly to the way we value oil now, and there was a time that communities were happy to have other people come in and take care of the oil project.

I costs nothing to leave the water alone and let it do its work in the ecosystem, work that we may not completely understand.

on Bottling It Up in Cascade Locks

I think this is a bad idea given the little I know about this company. At the very most I think the city should allow the company the non-extendable use of the water for thirty years and then the use of the water and the property of the plant would return to the city and directly benefit the people who live here and are directly impacted by whatever consequences come of this.

on The Future of Native Arts

I am at work and can only sort of hear the program, but there have been a few bits coming through about language, so I wanted to at least post this link.

on Reporting The News

It occures to me that journalists serve democracy by acting on behalf of the public, but bloggers are enacting democracy for themselves.

I think the word "witness" might be more helpful; someone who, as a person, is willing to witness an event and share that with others.

on From the Conventions: Speeches and Veeps

I would be interested in some discussion in the preemptive police activity of questionable legality directed at protest groups there for the convention. Lawyers in handcuffs? Trumped up ?fire code violations??
Why are those people so afraid?

I think I trouble, too, telling the difference between Patriotism and Nationalism.

on Hurrah for the Red, White and Blue

Every fourth of July I think about the Declaration of Independence and the distance between the Eastern seaboard and the king of England, and I think about the distance between where I live and the country?s seat of power. Striking similarities.

on Strong Arguments

...He said that you would not win if you were not useing. Is the point to see how well *you* can do, or is it to be better than all of the rest?
