Tom:

It is relly the other way around, it means that God loves us so much that he gave us free will in order to do what we want.

on As We Are: Abortion Stories

Congradulations on your new born child. However, instead of aborting the child, you could have carried on with the pregnancy and given the child up for adoption. At least he/she would have had a chance at life.

We are NOT trying to shove anit-abortionism down your throat, we are just trying to show you what is right and what is wrong; but ultimately, the choice is yours.

NO!!! Kristian!

It means that we need to trust that God's way is the best way, and God's way is not our way. And we have to belive that all things WILL work together for good, regardless of what we think.

on Nuclear Northwest

To respond to Joshua's comment about the solar farms; i read that scientists are experimenting with making solar farms out in space, where the energy is beamed down to earth via. microwaves and collencted and then used. Solar farms in space would be more efficient because on Earth, the atmosphere blocks much of the light energy, in space, that problem would not exist.

on Protecting Public Lands

Being a lover of camping, I have to say that I love going to the cascades to set up our tent in a civilization-free area where we can just enjoy nature for what it is. My favorite camping spot is Page Springs Campground in south-eastern Oregon, which is already protected since it is in Malhuer National Wildlife Refuge. I have hiked parts of the PCT, and I have seen how beautiful and scerene it is, and i cannot imagine anyone would come through it and start loging it. Why can't we make tree farms, where trees are grown just for logging? Then we could protect all of the natural beauty of Oregon.

on Protecting Public Lands

Personally, I would rather see my parent's tax money go towards preserving wilderness, not trying to "maintain" the trails that are already there.

Just because the exhaust is not noticeable, doesn't mean it's not there.

on A Sustainable Auto Industry

I think that the answer to your question is American auto industries are more intrested in making money and they are too intrested in making bigger trucks that use more gas when the core of the problem is we need to get rid of gas-powered cars.

on Weighty Issue

I am none of the things described above, but I know people who are overweight and I think that the main barrier of them is advertising. With all of the McDonald and Burger King comercials that are being circulated in the media, it's hard not to want a big mac or a bacon burger now and then. The trouble comes when it becomes more than now and then, you taste it once, and you want more and more until you feel satisfied. In this day and age when the main message that we hear is "Be happy, satisfy your hunger, you won't be happy until you eat this" it is hard not to fall. The most rediculous one I have ever herd was Taco Bell advetising its valcano taco; the man on the screen said: "Eat like a man!" The pressure to meet the criteria is overwhelming when you consider the fact that americans are obsessed with their image.

on About That $700 Billion...

Also, why give money to the banks the core of the problem is the american family is unable to pay morgage. The money could go to helping the american family pay their bills. If the banks receive money, they could afford to foreclose more homes with out losing any money.

on Agreement on the Klamath River

True, the salmon population would increse, but if the dams would not be taken out, you could save your tax dollars and energy costs for a fishing trip to somewhere else, like Alaska or somewhere. True, I do support Oregon products, I believe that the need for cleaner forms of energy is more important.

on Agreement on the Klamath River

To remove the four dams along the Klamath River would undermine the local farmers ability to irrigate thier crops, especially during dry times. The artificianl lakes provide farmers with a year-long acess to water. The dams also provide much of the electric power to Klamath county. Why take out a source of hydroelectric power in this troubled time? Not only will the removal of the dams take away farmers' ability to water their crops, but it will also diminish the size of Klamath Lake. Klamath Lake is an important stop for migratory birds going to Mexico from Canada. The removal of the dams would diminish the size of Klamath Lake, forcing the birds to seek else where for rest.

There are plus sides to the removal of the dams, the river would be opened up again to salmon migration. Salmon would be able to spawn on the Klamath River again, giving the fishing indrustry a facelift.
