I am working on a documentary called PLAY AGAIN, about children's increasing relationships with screens and decreasing relationships with nature. We are looking at the impact on children as well as the planet. One thing that struck me in my research for this film was an interview I did with Bill McKibben. I asked him what is the most important difference between what kids learn from media and what they learn from nature. He said media teaches kids that they are the center of the universe, that it is all about them. Nature teaches kids that they are just a small part of a much bigger picture... It is this contrast in values that I believe is at the heart of the sustainability movement today and what propels me to turn off the tv and get my family outside.
