I think it so disturbing that the GOP seems so completely invested in their political agenda which has focused on outright opposition and defiance in the hopes they can undermine President Obama's success in office.  In defeating healthcare reform through staunch and steadfast opposition, they hope to be able to catastrophize the Democratic Parties ability to pass meaningful legislation.  They'll turn to America in the next election cycle and say "Look!  You got your man in office, and he failed to produce anything but a larger deficit!".

It is deplorable, destructive and adolescent to take on political warfare rather than national success in the face of such dire need for reform, not only with healthcare but also financial regulation, foreign policy, and equal rights.

THough this puts a large burden on small towns, restrictions are in place for a reason.  Scientists have done many studies to determine what amount of discharge is acceptable with respect to the flow of the river, so to maintain the current ecosystem.  Those not fully understanding the potential impact easily, and ignorantly, can say that they should be allowed to dispose of a little more waste at a slightly higher temp as they don't really know what the consequences would be.  They are only thinking of the easiest and cheapest solution to their problem, just like millions of others before them, which has resulted in our current global environmental crisis (warming, water shortages, wildlife exstinction, etc.)

absolutely.  However, to take a course of action with the intention of undermining credibility in order to make oneself (or one party) look better is an ineffective way of serving the American people.  Smearing the motives of one group without making a sincere attempt at negotiating and compromising is destructive and dysfunctional. 

and democrats didn't smear the republicans, they did it to themselves with the bs of Cheney and bush.

The republicans have chosen their role; the Obama blockade.  Their political strategy is abundantly clear.  They are basing their political future on the ability to prevent the success of any policy Obama is attaching his name to.  It says volumes about their intention and charactor when you consider the commercial and industrial company that they keep, spending millions and millions lobbying against his progressive policy.  They have resolved to slander, disrupt, confuse and bicker rather than discuss, problem solve and compromise, all in the interest of maintaining the Bush-reinforced status quo.    How sad....

Obama can't fix this country this year, or in four years, or in 8 years.  The beaurocratic, economic and social systems in place have been established over a long period of time.  I voted for Obama because of his diplomatic skill, and my hope that he will begin to create the dialogue and inspire and support policy that questions, analyzes and reorganizes our goverment to provide people with the equality that we set out for 250 years ago.  The movement has begun....

Allowing a lottery to operate is a subliminal taxation of the poorest population. It is the gross distortion and manipulation of the foretold "American Dream", and it robs low income and destitute families of money that they could really use to attain their dreams. Measure 62 will be stealing manipulating money from the poor only to turn around and lock them up!

Education is the greatest deterrent of crime. Providing our children with a broader and more inclusive educational curriculum, supplemented with extracurricular activities such as sports, music, and art programs, all of which have suffered greatly in the past few decades. Increasing the level of law enforcement will only contribute to the "perpetual motion machine" of criminal incarceration and recidivism. Keep our money in education, and perhaps re-education of the existing incarcerated population!
