on Finding Work

During my 7 months of unemployment, I relied on Craiglist for most of the job openings I applied for. There were a few company websites that I checked regularly for openings, and some of them offered e-mail updates when a position became available. The Oregon unemployment office also offers a job data base for seekers. But when it came down to it, Craiglist is the place to search!

on Somali Communities

My family and I recently moved into a largely Somali community here in Portland. When we moved in back in June '10, the Somalians were very welcoming and most of them very friendly. It's clear that the actions of this one Somalian [Mohamed Osman Mohamud] who was trying to cause harm to Americans does not speak to the feelings and actions of all Somalians.

While I do not know the exact details of the FBI's process to convict a terrorist without it being legally declared entrapment, Mohamed Osman Mohamud wanted to do damage the best way he could find. He said himself he had been thinking of this kind of thing since he was 15. He could have been found by a real terrorist group, or just went out and bought a gun, shot as many people as he could before being brought down.

The point is he wanted to do this, he was given a means to his end and he pursued it.
