If you love her, find a way to keep the relationship.  Dating and relationships get harder once you get older.

on Surviving the Quarter-Life Crisis

I think those of us who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s were raised in a different culture than our parents’ generation.  Schools showered us with inflated grades, and popular culture told us that we can basically major in anything in college and still be able to pursue our dreams.  The message to “live our best lives” has raised our expectations in regards to careers and relationships, that somehow our jobs would be different from our parents’ jobs because these newer jobs would require “critical thinking” and “soft skills.”  But that same lofty message didn’t prepare us well for the reality of working with mainframe computers, or that fact that liberal arts degrees would saddle us with lower wages and excessive debt.

I am now 32 years old, and at least those of us in our 30’s were able to adjust to reality while jobs were still plentiful during the tech and real estate boom.   But for those who are in their early to mid twenties, I can see how their high expectations can get smashed quickly when they are graduating in the middle of the deepest recession we’ve had in 30 years.
