RECENTLY ON TOL:
- A tumblr site dedicated to the people and places that make up Oregon and Southwest Washington.
I hold a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering, and a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering. I have six figures a year salary and the company I work for tries its best to hire the best people in the world. As expected, a large majority of engineers are not from the US, but from all over the world: Russia, Germany, Japan, China, India, Mexico and many other countries.
The immigration discussion needs to be separated between targeted legal immigration and general immigration. It is frustrating to see how people that do not follow the rules "get jobs" faster than people that are going through all the steps that law requires.
My wife and have decided to raise a family in the US because of safety concerns (everybody in my family has been robbed in Mexico). I simply do not wish my kids to live in fear.
In Mexico there is no sense of voluntarism. There you volunteer and are deemed a fool for working and not getting paid. while here in the US is part rewarded with nice comments and expectations that is almost required.
The US is stronger with immigration. But it needs to be targeted immigration that makes the US stronger, not weaker. Don't put us all in the same bucket.
