Why does no one address the elephant in the room? Why does no one mention the huge gridlock already in place at the Rose Garden and the intersection with I-84?   How can you add more lanes and more traffic and not do something about the huge logjam 3-5 miles south of the bridge?

on Rebirth of Local Journalism

I subscribe to the St. Johns Review and the Sentinel also published in North Portland, because I'm living in Kenton and wanted to support them.

I find them kind of interesting for local history and some mentions of things like new bike paths and I look at the neighborhood ads, but don't find them wildly newsworthy.  I read the Oregonian for news

I do not read any newspapers online because I'm 62 and need the paper in my hand along with my coffee!

on Judge a Book by Its Pixels

I don't want to read a newspaper on a computer.  Newspapers should charge for their content online.  I prefer to read a newspaper on paper in my hand, with coffee at my breakfast table. Pleeze.

I would like to see the Kindle before buying it.  I think that reading adult novels on it would be fine for convenience (travel and commuting).

However, I'm a librarian and never read fiction more than once which I borrow from the library. But I only purchase reference books which are colorful quilting, crafts books.  These would not be useful on a Kindle although it would save space on my home shelves.

on Healthy Choices

Briefly, menu labeling works.  When Safeway hung a batch of nutritional information cards by their doughnut display, I discovered that my favorite maple bars cost 500 calories!  I've had to think very hard about maple bars since then, and mostly I pass them by.

As a lifelong dieter, I know the calorie count of most foods we cook with, but restaurant combinations are much harder to calculate.

on Sam Scandal

I agree with most of the writers saying that it's not our business and, that anyone would lie to get out of the embarrassing question in the first place. I'm just relieved that there is no long-suffering, mortified wife having to "stand by her man" one more time.

on Clinton and the Generational Gender Divide

I am a 60 year old woman who will be voting for Hilary Clinton. All her "unattactive"personality traits are the same ones which are OK in men. She has political baggage, just like men politicians; she has compromised just like men politicians. It is time for all the blah, blah lame excuses against Hilary to just go away. I'm voting for her because she is a woman, and so is my 27 year old daughter. All this sexist talk against her has made us more determined to vote for her.
