Given that once a teacher is hired, it is very hard to get a poor teacher terminated, would the union and districts accept a non-binding prescreening for applicants? Such a system would require an independent third party to judge teacher candidates based on their past work and their work in actual classrooms.

An across the board cut is just too egregious an action even with the set asides for public safety to consdier at this time. What options do we have?

on Mt. Hood Search
The logic of the Portland Mountain Rescue about requiring a locator beacon is questionable. They seem to say that with a beacon, climbers might be more prone to take risks.
So when I drive my car and use my seatbelt, I am more likely to drive with recklessly. The use of the seatbelt or the locator beacon is just a prudent safety measure that is required for drivers why not for climbers?
