on Mt. Hood Search

Having a locator beacon such as a mountain locator or a SPOT GPS beacon should be the responsibility of the individual.  It is the equivalent of backcountry skiers and snowmobilers using avalanche beacons.  People SHOULD use these devices but very few actually take them when they travel into the backcountry.

on Referendum Signatures

I think that if the tables were turned and it was the gay rights groups that had gathered signatures to refer a referendum to the ballot in favor of gay marriage they would not try to hide their names.  If you believe in what you sign and support you should be able to defend your beliefs and not be afraid of people who have an opposing view.

on Referendum Signatures

I think there is a big difference between PAID signature gatherers and people who do it out of their passion for the petition.  There is too much incentive for a paid signature gatherer to cut corners, forge signatures, or mislead signers.  I think ALL referendums which employ paid signature gatherers should be published online.

on Rx: Health Promotion

My employer promotes healthy living by providing exercise equipment, locker rooms, and healthy lunch choices.  They see this as an investment in their employees.  A healthy employee will be more alert, have lower stress, and miss fewer days.  This is a medium size business but what are the large companies and the government doing for their employees to try and keep them healthier?

on Which Protests Work?

Sometimes a protest can help galvanize the opposition because of the “type” or method of protest.  How does this backlash affect the planning of your protests?

on A Homeowner Bailout?

The “it’s not my problem” attitude is close minded.  It is not my problem that people need Social Security or Medicare.  I’m young and won’t need any of those services for many years if these programs are even still around.  So do I get to choose not to pay taxes on those services?  It is everybody’s problem when our family, friends, and neighbors are in trouble.

Also I'm only 25 and have owned my house for five years now and like the caller I too have never missed a payment on my house.  That doesn't mean I'm better than those people who are struggling.

on Lower Returns for Higher Ed

Also what about full scholarships?  If a parent used pre-paid tuition and then their child doesn’t have to pay for school how would you get the money back?  Or is there less chance the child would qualify because their tuition is pre-paid?

Can I invest in Washington’s pre-paid tuition or is it only for Washington residents?

on Taking Shots

Why have we not heard from reputable doctors as to why they don?t vaccinate? There seems to be mothers who think they are more intelligent than the entire medical community when it comes to their child?s health.

on Packing Heat Privately

The argument of someone trying to steal your gun is a poor point. If someone knows you have a concealed handgun license and breaks into your house to try and steel your firearm they should be defeated by the simple fact that guns should be kept in a LOCKED SAFE making it inaccessible to anyone but yourself.

on Packing Heat Privately

I have had a concealed handgun license since 2005 and it doesn?t matter if the record is public and accessible to all. The whole point of the license is that it should be CONCEALED. You may know I have the right to carry a handgun with me but nobody else is supposed to know where it is and if I am carrying but myself.

on Canary in the Economic Coal Mine

A big sign to me was the amount of people who chose to hunt this year. Hunting is a great way to supplement meat costs when times are tight. More people than I had ever seen chose to hunt this year in an attempt to save money on food costs.

on Measures 63 and 64

How would this new measure (63) affect the income local governments receive from the fees they collect from these permits?

on Cops, Laws and Videotape

The guest said that Portland police don?t have cameras but what about Oregon State Police, County Sheriff?s and other cities around Oregon. I know for a fact many of them do have dash mounted cameras.

on Cops, Laws and Videotape

Most police have cameras mounted on their patrol cars. Many of these officers also have a microphone on to record their conversations therefore recording the conversation they are having with me. When I have been stopped for a traffic ticket I have never been informed that I am being recorded on video and audio. Doesn?t this law work both ways or are the police exempt from this law?

on Measure 62: Lottery Funds

What about the fact that budgets for police and law enforcement are going to be strained because of the gas increases that incurred this year and most likely next year? There will need to be a major increase in the budget to cover their inflation on necessities required to keep our current standards of police agencies.

What about the Education and Financial consequences of this young pregnancy?
One of the guests touched on not finishing high school, while some of the parents finish high school even less go to or graduate college. How does this affect short and long term financial stability?

on Open Source City

I recently read that Microsoft was forced to release a portion of their source code. Did that release have any effect on the new innovations in the market, or did they hold back so that they could remain a Monopoly for as long as possible?

on Jury Deliberations

Why do I think this subject is news worthy? Because it could affect myself or someone in my community. I feel that it is OPB's responsibility to inform their listeners of things happening in Oregon that has an effect on them but they may not know about. This is a subject that had very little discussion before and now thanks to OPB there will be open conversation and let the public create their own opinion about this. I feel that the catalyst for discussion is essential and I thank OPB for providing it.

on (Not) On a Jet Plane

What about the amount of fuel consumption that large jets use? I once heard that it took about 8 GALLONS for every 1 MILE a large 747 traveled. If that is correct is there a way which either using small planes with more frequent flights could help improve those numbers?
