on Chief Sizer Speaks

You guys went an entire hour without asking one of the tough questions posted on your site. Way to go! You've proven to be the most softball news program in the world.

This is so ridiculous! So we need to lower our expections as a community and the police need more training to be able to coordinate an operation. Come on Emily, ask some tough questions for once!

Why did they not wait and see how the dog handled the suspect before using lethal force? A dog could attack the man even if he had "hard cover." Our expectation is that police will use non-lethal force before resorting to killing someone.

on The Rise of the Graphic Novel

We just elected the first African American president. Conservatism is being defeated. There are so many stories of election irregularities to sort through. The world is changing under our feet. And you're talking about graphic novels? Are you already "over it?"

on From the Conventions: Speeches and Veeps

While you're "reporter" in St. Paul was inside the XCel center "just missing" important protests, more than 300 people were arrested, swept up in complete over-reactions by the a militant police force locked and loaded for war. Eight are being charged with terrorism. Many were let go without charges after being held in jail for two days. While Sarah Palin mocks Obama for wanting to read terrorists their rights, directly outside people are losing their civil rights, some of them Republican.

on Hurrah for the Red, White and Blue

There's way too much chest pounding in this country that masquerades as patriotism. The best way I can be patriotic is to critical of our country in these disastrous times. Our highway infrastructure is collapsing, we're continuing to wage war, we refuse to charge our detainees in Guantanamo, 48 million people don't have health insurance, while the wealthy get wealthier. There is really quite nothing to be proud of, but much to patriotic if we may eventually put our country back on track. We need our own declaration of independence against the current tyrants in the White House.

on Just a Day Job

There are a lot of assumptions made that people who are day laborers, who are latino, are undocumented, but that's not always true. The day labor site doesn't have to do with immigration. It's about hard working people who have long been mistreated. Day laborers are one of the most marginalized and vulnerable of the working classes. The center will give them strength in their union and hopefully protect them from the abuses they suffer, such as not being paid the wages they are owed, or being physically or verbally abused. This will hopefully allow them to set their minimum wage so that they can better support their families. The center is not about immigration. It's about labor rights and human rights. To address the fact that some may be undocumented, don't forget that our affluent society has been built on unfair trade policies that have driven them from their homes. There is no easy path for them to come here legally. Now that they are here, they are most vital and should be paid what they deserve. I applaud the wisdom of the city of Portland.
