on Questioning Police Policy

When "Public Servant" becomes semantically equivalent to "Public Master" things have gone horribly wrong!

I am appalled that Police Officers are Unionized--totally inappropriate. And I am tired of hearing about the daily stresses and risks the Officers face--it is a VOLUNTARY position (there is no police draft).

I am also troubled by the prevalence of Military Veterans in Police Service—they are very different professions.

Without ROBUST civilian supervision of the Police (with real teeth in repercussions for the officers) we are on a frightening path to a tragic loss of civil rights.

For the record: I am not a criminal, I am fully employed in a Professional Capacity, I am a property owner in West Linn, and I am a Veteran.

on Judge a Book by Its Pixels

Both my wife & I use the FREE Kindle App on our iPhones--at first we were unsure about reading on such a small format--but we both found it very easy (and now have reading material with us at all times).

on From the Conventions: Speeches and Veeps

The Republican choice for VEEP seems to transparently attempt to garner favor with die-hard Hilary Supporters who can't bring themselves to vote for Obama. McCain seems to distill this down to: "We have a woman on the ticket". This distillation/over-simplification is insulting.

on Language Lessons

Up-Talker: A person who speaks in declarative sentences yet with the inflection of a question. For some reason this is common among people who work for non-profit organizations.
Did you hear the up-talker during that meeting? I kept thinking she wanted me to answer her but she wasn't actually asking questions. So frustrating and annoying!

on Language Lessons

I was dismayed to hear what (otherwise) sounded like a bright young lady extolling the virtues of learning Mandarin all the while speaking English as an ?up-talker?. Unforgivable for a student of a tonal language that can?t seem to see the importance of the tonal aspects of her native tongue!

STOP UP-TALKING IN THIS GENERATION.
