on Budget Cuts Are Coming

Don't comment on a lot, but the proposed cuts need to start in Salem and then work outwards to us peons.  I use to work for the government and I could cut $millions from Salem politics, but there are too many incrdeible egos that will take it out on the taxpayers before they ever lose a position they created.  Pretty sad isn't it and our Governor is the worst offender - bend over folks because it is a coming.  The folks in Salem have forgotten who they really work for and we are not paying attention because of the economy...

on Rural Office Politics

Are people in Salem talking about matters of importance to rural Oregonians? Is the rural/urban divide that people mention so often just a figment of people's imagination? Or is it a reality? What place does Oregon's countryside have in Salem's urban political offices?

As much as I would love to comment on live radio, I have work to do and just happened upon this thread at an early hour and decided to comment on each question posed.

No - the cretins in Salem only answer to local miscreants and those of us in the rural areas are without representation and that might change pretty soon.

A figment of imagination? Not even - the rich live in the inland and not-so-rich live in the out-land and there is definately a line between the two. Well, perhaps there are those of the rich that live in the out-land that call the shots, but most of us know who they are and call their garble, but we really have no chance when it comes to wealth.

If Salem's outreach has anything to do with the saving of the countryside, you folks had better get a grip on the developers that have only one thing on mind and that is growth. As I have opined before, money talks and shit walks and there is no doubt that the politician's will cave in regards to progress and growth....

on The Legality of Homelessness

Having been born and raised in Oregon I have applauded this state for its stand(s) on free speech and individual rights. Let the municipalities waste tax money in coming up with laws so the ACLU can chime in and put Oregon back in the national news.

I interact with panhandlers each and every day and no matter how many laws are passed, it will not change anytime soon. If people don't like panhandlers on the "street," ignore them - if you don't like them on mass transit, sit somewhere else. If one becomes a victim of a "homeless" person, contact your local DA's office in person with the facts and a witness or two and maybe some pictures if the local police decide not to help.

I sort of agree with the person that people who decide to give panhandlers money are the ones that need the most help and we need more laws to protect them from themselves. It appears that the investigative reporting done by the local media several years back has been forgotten - they ran into panhanlers that were making more money than most and not paying taxes...

on Declaration of Candidacy Day

Let us all regale with food and drink as to the candidates that have thrown their proverbial hat-in-the-ring for whatever seat that is open. As for the mail in ballot - please give us a break because once it leaves the Post Office it is out of government hands and subject to fraud and if that is not enough, let us not forget that while Oregon was still counting the ballots, Bush was elected President of these United States. Yea, mail in ballots save money, but wo what extent? Nothing excites me more than to watch the Democrat's make asses out themeselves and I use to be an Independent when I was a government employee, but now I see the light and will vote Republican and that will be enough to get me nixed from OPB...

on Memoir Nation

Being an English major with a literature minor as one of my degrees, I find it fascinating that the opiner's on this thread found a place in their make believe world to make a comment - thanks for being there to set us all straight and remember that brevity and succinctness goes farther than bloviating...

Given a second chance on life, why would someone that is published to any degree make a comment on this local thread unless they are trying to convince the masses? I would be willing to read your writing if you are for real; OK???

on Casinos and Condos in the Columbia Gorge

OK - my fault for not logging in sooner. I am a Native Oregonian and there have been so many posts from known developers that no one will get down this far to read this so here it goes:

STOP the growth.

The Columbia Gorge will be ruined by developer's and the relax of the current laws in place. Wait a minute - I forget that money talks and shit walks and that is what is all about. A good thing that I am moving to Montana so I can warn them about the travesty that will befall those that reamin...

on The Business of Prisons

"Is there a prison in or near where you live? What effect has that had on the local economy? Is Oregon's approach to incarceration -- and prison labor -- good for our state's financial health?"

Yes, there is a prison near where I live and a majority of the people that work there live in the surrounding community and contribute to the local and state economy. Is Oregon's approach to our situation good for the state's economic health? A redundant question when the employee's are paying property taxes as well as 9% of their gross pay to the states coffers - who really cares about the prison labor force when it is constitutionally mandated? The incarcerated deserve what is meted out to them.

No wonder we incarcerate so many folks - come to Oregon to get free medical, optical and dental care along with food-stamps and welfare because we are the Socialist State of the US and you're all welcome with open arms. Oh yea, let us not forget that if you like to do crime come to Oregon where you will do the least amount of time for your crime(s)...

on Hooley in the Studio

The folks in Oregon can only hope that Ms. Hooley either hangs it up and goes away or else she takes the stance that she is famaous for and fghts for some cause that will effect us all. I still have have my coffee cup for five years of service that she presented me that I still use. In spite of everything, Darlene Hooley can and hopefully will make a difference in the things to come...

on Burning Questions

What bothers me is that the media have mixed three stories - or more - into one and that really is not fair. Not taking anyones side, how can "Julie Sabatier" hope to mesh "Tre Arrow" with the arson in Woodinville, WA along with "Briana Waters" and "ELF" and "ALF" just becuase he is in custody??? Please tell me how a guy that has been in custody up in Canada for the past four years has anything to do with your opining? Bunk... He might be guilty of one crime and deserves to be convicted, but how can you justify your less than professional opine???

on Social Engineering

Handing out condoms is nothing new for the average cop on the beat in the old days. We use to beat on car windows to rouse the kids in steamed-up cars and ask the female if she was there because she wanted to be there in order to check for rape, kidnapping or both. Our parting shot was to please practice safe sex because we all knew it was a thing that had gone on for decades and the cops could not stop it.

on Are You Down With LNG?

Well, "wakerider" pretty much said it all and if you think that you/we are in control of the "Democratic" process you live in the wrong state. If you are not on board, you are drowning and the best thing that has happened to this state in along time is the future of LNG. I got it, go to the Coast Guard and cry the blues to them because they can reverse the inevitable, but we can't...

on The Future of Oregon's Coastal Waters

Absolutely unbelievable that so many educated people cannot keep their postings succinct and to the point. On and on and on and on you folks go when very few people read your long-winded opining's. A sad commentary on a sad subject only to make it worse with folks that must have missed WR 101...

on Are You Down With LNG?

Absolutely unbelievable that folks on this post opine about stuff and go and on and on and on about nothing that almost no one reads. Have any of you supposedly educated folks ever heard of "succintess" or "brevity" and my guess is that you have not and that you like to post on stuff because you cannot make a difference anywhere else...

on Lost in Translation

Face it folks, we are out of money to support these illegals, but then again Orygun has always been weird and that it is one reason our taxes are so high to support those that can't and that is why they flock to the Socialist State of Oregon. I can only wait for the Federal Law to take effect in this state that will hold employers responsible to prove US status of it's emplyoees...

Please tell me why people post such long-winded opines when brevity and succintness prevails?

on Meat Me In Oregon

mydogatemyemail has a valid point in his/her argument - if I am not mistaken, Chicago, IL was the first city in the US to ban this product and many other jurisdiction's have followed suit. While I do agree with the premise of the post because it can be proven and I do agree that it is/was irresponsible of OPB to bring this up, I do not agree that one should "cancel" their pledge because of the 1st Amendment that we all enjoy and can voice our dissatisfaction with...

on The Future of Oregon's Coastal Waters

Having fished the coastal waters of Oregon and taken more than my fair share of clams along the beaches of Oregon, this proposal is a small price to pay for a protracted period of time as outined in this article. It appears that the masses of humanity that have migrated to this state have made it almost uninhabitable and I for one agree with the late Governor Tom McCall when he said in essence that people come visit Oregon, but don't move here...

Lastly, it appears that folks on so many OPB threads like to go and on about stuff that no one really reads, my suggestion is to keep it succinct instead of bloviating and if you don't know what those big words mean, you can look them up.

on Are You Down With LNG?

Oh yea, I did listen to the radio and the fact that my post was brought up to the "Guru" at FERC and his reply leads me to believe that this whole thing will go through with or without people that oppose it because of the political process. Hey, like the man said, let the Californian's pay for this and tax them in order to fill our coffers. There are people on this thread that are a lot smarter than most that agree that these projects are a good thing and if we don't climb on board, we will be left in the proverbial dust...

To Dave McKeel - Sir, I have no Califonia inclinations and I do appreciate and respect your post. It strikes me funny that are so many posts after mine and that makes for a most interesting discussion. I believe in brevity unlike some folks on this thread and I really appreciate your opining. Let's face it, we will get the LNG Pipeline whether we like it or not - having retired from the government I will tell you that money talks and shit walks and that is what you are up against. Uncle Ted can opine all he wants, but the pipeline will come to fruition no matter what. I agree that the jobs will be fleeting and the pay will be high and then low, but you and I cannot fight the inevitable -just wait...
