on Preserving the Harvest

This time of year, we are (or have been) knee-deep in cherry tomatoes..... One of my favorite things to do with cherry tomatoes (especially Sun Golds) is to slice them in half (leaving a bit of skin attaching the 2 halves), and dehydrate them and freeze them in zip lock bags. Take them out all winter long to enjoy in stir-fries - YUM!!!

on Primary Conversations: Attorney General

I live in the Columbia River Gorge area and was forwarded this e-mail from Friends of the Gorge. What are your viewpoints and can you stop this?

This month the Columbia River Gorge Commission voted 10-2 to amend the gorge-wide management plan to allow an urban scale destination resort in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

Never in the history of the National Scenic Area has a development of this magnitude and intensity been allowed outside of a designated urban area.

The amendment sets a terrible precedent that will impact future generations who are depending on us to protect the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

on How Does Your Garden Grow?

I am an avid gardener from Underwood WA (for over 11 years now)..... What I have noticed, mostly, in my own gardening habits is planting more drought tolerant species..... I love it when it rains here in the Winter (which most people don't appreciate), because I'm not watering. I am originally from Madison WI, so my gardening tendencies have already gone through a BIG climate change. I am not really noticing any changes in my own garden because of "global warming". In the region I live in, the closer (& lower elevation) you live towards the Columbia River, the milder the climate anyway.
