Sam Adams is a complete degenerate.  It has nothing to do with him being gay.  If he was a conservative who met a 17 year old female intern I would feel the exact same way.  The issue is his total lack of judgement or self-control.  He was supposed to be mentoring someone, helping them to gain valuable experience for a future career, instead he pursued a physical relaionship with that person.  That said, the worst thing that ever happened to him was being elected mayor.  If he wasn't the mayor no one would know of or care about Beau Breedlove.
