on Surviving the Quarter-Life Crisis

Up until this point, I've had relatively little uncertainty in my life, completing a double undergraduate degree last spring.  I'm now 25 and looking at two graduate schools far from home.  Both schools are highly appealing, but one is near where my girlfriend lives, and one is halfway across the country from her.  We've barely seen each other since we met two years ago, but I'm having trouble of facing the idea of another two years apart.  I only have the opportunity of starting at one graduate school far away from my girlfriend this fall, or delaying the start a full year.  This situation seems typical for my generation, but was much less common a generation ago.  However the situation ends up, I'll have to reach a decision within a week or so.  Deciding between career and life seems to be a more and more common issue and this is probably my greatest uncertainty to date.
